Episode 14 The Moscow Idaho Murders
The college town of Moscow, Idaho a population of 25,000 people was shocked and on edge following the brutal November 13, 2022 quadruple murders of 4 college students in their off campus home.
The victims Ethan Chapin, 20, Madison Mogen, 21; Xana Kernodle, 20, and Kaylee Goncalves, 21, were found stabbed to death in a bloody crime scene by other housemates.
Police called the murders 'isolated' and 'targeted' and stated that the residents of Moscow were not in danger. But without motives, answers, or an arrest, the community feared for their safety and many students chose to leave the area rather than stay there and continue their studies.
The case became front page news and the lead story nationwide as the press descended on Moscow. The police, aided by the FBI, scrambled to find the killer, but motives and leads were in short supply.
Finally, a major clue came in the form of a White Hyundai captured on surveillance footage near the crime scene around the time of the attack. Police made a public plea for help in identifying the car.
After more than 19,000 tips in the case, police finally made an arrest in late December on the other side of the country. . 28 year old Bryan Kohberger, was arrested in Pennsylvania, and charged with four counts of first degree murder, and one count of felony burglary. He's currently awaiting for a preliminary hearing which won't come until June, 2023.
An affidavit shed some light on the investigation into Kohberger, but only scratches the surface. There are still a lot of unanswered questions, and theories. In this episode, the panel discusses what's been reported in the case, and mentioned in the affidavit, and discusses what evidence the authorities may have against the suspect.
