Episode 93 Sharon Blankenbeckler
Twenty-year-old Sharon Blankenbeckler grew up in the small town of Chilhowie, Virginia. On March 10, 1977, she traveled to the nearby town of Marion to apply for a job at the K-Mart there and never returned home.
Her parents wasted no time involving police, and Sharon’s car was found in the K-Mart parking lot with a flat tire. Sharon was nowhere to be found. Almost a month later, Sharon was found dead on Walker’s Mountain. She had been bound, strangled, and dumped. News of her murder shocked her small close-knit community, and it did not take long for rumors to circulate, and suspicion to sink in amongst the residents of the community. Despite possible suspects, and even a confession from someone, over four decades later, Sharon’s case remains unsolved.
Sharon’s Cousin Barney has been an outstanding advocate for Sharon’s case, and he discusses the tragic murder in this episode.
