Episode 107 Michael Russell
15-year-old Michael Russell of San Jose, CA was a typical teenager and high school student at Santa Teresa HS. He like other kids his age was trying to find his way and fit in. He had dreams of starting a rock band. But when 2 of Michael’s friends and classmates came to his home on November 10, 2009, Michael’s life would be taken, and his dreams wiped out.
Those two young men 16-year-old Jae Williams, and 15-year-old Randy Thompson attacked Michael in a pre-planned blitz, stabbing Michael and slashing his throat before fleeing the scene. Michael’s uncle found him, but it was too late to save Michael.
Police quickly zeroed in on the two killers and they were taken into custody. The investigation revealed that the pair had planned the murder for weeks, and it came to light that the 2 self-described Satanists had even tortured and murdered animals. They showed little to no remorse and were sentenced to lengthy prison sentences after being found guilty of Michael’s murder.
Incredibly, a new law SB-1391 aimed at reducing the sentences of offenders under age 16, was enacted and it means that Randy Thompson may walk free at any time now, and that’s a thought that has re-opened old wounds for Michael’s family.
Michael’s aunt Kari discusses that law, Michael’s murder, and his all too short life in this episode.
