Episode 118 Katie Palmer

The Murder in My Family | Katie Palmer

On the morning of April 21, 2020, Katie Palmer, a beloved 39-year-old teacher and mother of 2 in Dennison, TX was struck and killed as she took a walk in her neighborhood with her husband John.

As the pair walked looking at birds, a truck driving on the wrong side of the road plowed into them both, knocking them out of their shoes and sending them 70 feet. John was severely injured and despite having a broken back, crawled to Katie’s side to check on her but she was barely breathing and her eyes were fixed.

Police and EMTs were dispatched to the scene. John was taken by ambulance to a local hospital and Katie was Medavaced to Plano, TX where attempts to save her failed, and she died from multiple traumas including severe head injuries.

Back at the scene, it was determined that one of the Palmer’s neighbors, Cory Foster, had been driving the truck that struck the pair. Body cam footage revealed that the state trooper questioning Cory Foster detected the smell of alcohol on Foster’s breath, and Foster admitted that he had been drinking the night before. But astonishingly, the trooper did not give Foster a breathalizer until almost an hour later. When the results came in, Foster was just under the state’s legal limit. Had he been tested an hour earlier, he may have been found to be intoxicated.

As if that wasn’t bad enough, a check of Cory Foster’s background revealed a history of multiple driving infractions including driving under the influence, and reckless driving. Despite the clear fact that Cory Foster’s actions led to Katie Palmer’s death and John Palmer’s severe injuries, officials in Grayson County, TX have refused to prosecute Cory Foster.

It’s left John Palmer understandably angry and searching for justice while he has had to adjust to raising his kids without Katie. John Palmer discussed the tragic events of that day in this episode, and his efforts to get justice for Katie.
